JACKKNIFE is a psychological horror visual novel set in the highways of rural America. You play a lone hitchhiker trying to outrun your past when a charming truck driver named Jackie offers you a ride. But as snow begins to fall, you sense that your rescuer might be far more dangerous than you expected.

You play as a lonely hitchhiker. A woman, though who she is and what she’s running from are left to you. There are no pronoun options, and the story uses feminine terms like 'lady' when referring to you. Your appearance is never shown directly, but your style of dress is more feminine, like references to wearing skirts and make-up.
Content warning:
Jackknife contains depictions of blood, death, stalking, manipulation, and predation. This game explores mature subject matter intended for adult audiences. Minor sexual themes, but no explicit graphic sex is depicted.
Future Plans:
Due to all the interest in the game, JACKKNIFE will be continued! An update is planned to hopefully release at the end of the year! See this devlog for more details.
I’ve had this concept for a few years now, but I took the opportunity this year to practice branching paths in a visual novel in a way I haven’t before. I do have some future ideas for this game, but I wouldn’t call it a demo, as I don’t currently plan to finish it , it was more of a writing exercise. However, if there’s enough interest, I might continue it!

When everything came together I was like "ohh!" Though it's subtle, the world building is quite nice! Jackie talking to the background characters so casually makes me feel like we're practically driving in vampire territory. That explains why almost everyone we encounter are so mysteriously durable, aside from the couple from the beginning. Very nice game!

girl i subscribed to the patreon i am so hooked. im also so glad to see that you are continuing this! like all the other comments, i definitely agree that Jackie is attractive, but one thing i found intriguing about the game is how often our MC’s desire is treated as a death sentence. and not just sexual desire! the amount of times i died just from wanting to investigate the weird things MC was hearing Jackie do or say were numerous. living as a woman, and a queer woman at that, there are so many tales of women desiring something and the moral of that story is that a woman’s desire is bad. and the desire can be anything: knowledge, freedom, sex, power. those women in these stories are then punished for that desire, and those narratives justify that punishment by saying that the desire itself is destructive enough to warrant a painful consequence. Jackie is very Blue Beard coded to me in that way. ANYWAY all that discombobulated rambling to say that i am hooked on the themes of it all and i am excited to see where you take it!!

Genuinely the first time I've found a visual novel with a character that feels like they were written for me (and a mc that feels like they're thinking my thoughts!). On top of that the art is absolutely gorgeous. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for future updates and you can bet I'll be buying that DLC! I wish you luck in your endeavors!
